Worcester Floral Arrangement Society
Worcester Floral Arrangement Society has been celebrating its 60th anniversary. Its members regularly enter (and win!) high level competitions and decorate churches, cathedrals and abbeys. One of its members, Barbara Parker, tells us more.
Some of the many big shows we compete at include the Three Counties, The Spring and Autumn Shows and National and Area Days. Our talented members win numerous awards including many first prizes!
We have also taken part in decorating everything from St. Paul's Cathedral and Westminster Abbey in London, to local cathedrals, abbeys and churches. We have provided arrangements at the Guildhall in Worcester for the Mayor’s banquets and charity dinners over the years. Members of the public may well have been impressed by the standard of the glorious arrangements we created, maybe some of them found ‘Lonely Bouquets’, left in various places to be taken home, which help to promote Flower Clubs everywhere.
Each year we hold an Open Evening, when a Christmas demonstration raises money for charities. This year the Midlands Air Ambulance received £1,000. We travel far and wide on holidays incorporating visits to gardens including Versailles, Monet's Garden in Givenchy, St Petersburg, Cordoba and Genoa.
In 2000 a Junior Club was started where boys and girls enjoy being shown designs which they then interpret with input of their own. They have been extremely successful by competing at the Spring and Autumn shows at Malvern, Area and National Days as well as doing floral designs for festivals including Westminster Abbey.
We are a friendly "bunch" and warmly welcome new members at our meetings which take place on the first Friday of each month at Hallow Village Hall. Starting at 7.30pm, we watch the best Area and National demonstrators create stunning, diverse designs for our entertainment, which one of us will win in a raffle (at only £1 a ticket!).
Everyone is welcome so come and join us for fun and friendship through flowers. If you’re interested, please contact Helen Cook on (01886) 821784 or by email firstname.lastname@example.org
