Indian October at The Fold
18 October 2018 to 26 October 2018
In October 2016 The Fold brought the wonders of Indian culture to our communities and following on from its success we have been working hard to make Indian October 2018 bigger and brighter. This year it will be celebrated through various classical, semi-classical, contemporary, folk and Bollywood concerts, performances and workshops.
There will be artists from, India, Taiwan, Hong Kong, France and the UK.
The festival begins on Monday 15th October with one of our five inspiring workshops, a Kuchipudi dance workshop with the Hari Om Dance Society from Hong Kong. It’s a wonderful chance to gain an introduction to the basics of Kuchipudi by masters in their art in a small personal group.
You can come and learn to move in a way you may have only ever dreamt of at our traditional Bollywood dance workshop, Punjabi Bhangra. Bollywood dance brings life to the story behind the dance, and never fails to make the dancers smile. Or, try a different style of Bollywood Dance called Dandiya Stick which is a playful dance using beautifully decorated sticks as props. For those who’ve always been interested in singing and voice work then come and join Gilles Petit where you will explore your voice, its width and breadth, revealing your unique voice and its song.
The workshops are a fantastic way to immerse yourself in Indian culture and we’re sure there’s something for everyone.
Our concerts begin on Friday 12th at 8pm, performed featuring traditional chanting of ancient mantras. Come and immerse yourself in this soothing rhythmic practice, performed by two much-loved Indian artists.
There are four more concerts for you to enjoy throughout the festival fortnight and each evening will showcase a different style of dance, music and song. Our finale of concerts and workshops concludes on Friday 26th with a Bollywood and curry evening held in our beautiful café.
Please note that spaces are limited, so do book in good time to avoid disappointment.
